dear blog: i have neglected you

And for that, I apologize. It seems that lately there is just too much haphazardness going on to actually take time to formulate thoughts. I plan to remedy that.

I figure the best way to catch up is to sift through my Flickr and see what all has happened. In this season I seem to be documenting life through the camera instead of through words, and while I love the camera (probably a little too much), I love words dearly and don't have any plans to toss them anytime soon.

One exciting thing that happened was that my dear Bad Dragon has gotten engaged. Andy has lived out of town for almost the entirety of his relationship with my wonderful friend Val, which means that I don't know him as well as I'd like to yet, but despite that he still thought to call me and let me in on his plans, even asking me to hide with my camera in the vicinity of his proposing to capture the entire thing. It was SO. MUCH. FUN. I felt like I was in the CIA or something. I loved every single minute of it, and couldn't be happier for them. Val is one of my most favorite people on this planet (or any other for that matter), and Andy is her perfect match.

Oh yes, and the 4th of July. Not only was the 4th a wonderful reprieve this year, so was the 3rd. It was just a wonderful couple days of nothing. Natalie and I made blueberry pancakes, we watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I had leftover tacos with Jordanne and a handful of entertaining peeps, got a free americano at Dunn Bros with Val (that's what happens when you order coffee after they've poured out all the brewed stuff for the night), and — gift of all gifts — Die Hard 2 was on TV in HD. One word to the wise, though. Don't stand in the middle of a field, looking down at your phone texting, where people are playing frisbee. You just might get hit in the eye with a stray frisbee, and it just may hurt like the dickens. Just saying.

Every Thursday night we have "family night" with the LTP interns. Just the interns and staff, all 35 of us get together and eat and play at Jon and Alissa's house. Lately the dogs have been a little hyper-sensitive to all the people and have freaked out at the most inopportune times. So this past week Jon gave them some drugs before everybody got there, and woo-wee were those two hilarious. Stoned out of their little doggie minds they were. Below is Ese not focusing, and Faye in sheer oblivion.

This coming week I'm doing a photo shoot with Jon for his revamped website (www.jonshirley.com), but Thursday night I did manage to capture this one of the Shirley family with everyone present except Faye, who was standing at the screen door whining to come outside. You can't see it in the picture, but there's a little one in Alissa's belly.

Also on Thursday, while I was at Jon and Alissa's enjoying their stoned puppies, my roomie Julie broke her foot. Oh, just normal horsing around stuff, but she's on crutches for awhile and this takes her out of the triathalon she was training for, which is a big huge bummer. I know there is a ton of irony in the fact that my roommate who is both an athlete AND a doctor is the one who broke her foot, when I am the one who is usually so clumsy. (And melodramatic. See: me getting hit in the face with the frisbee two paragraphs up.) I don't have a photo for the breaking of the foot, although I should eventually take one to document the whole deal.

Last night I got the pleasure of rehearsing with Katie and James for their wedding today, and just to celebrate the occasion God gave us this sky:

I know. Woah dang.

I think that's it for now. Maybe life will become a little more exciting here in the next little bit, or maybe I'll just remember to write down the hilarious mundane a little more often. I'll try. :)
